Amazon introduces ‘Local Selling’ to provide in-store pickup option

Amazon, an e-Commerce giant, has reportedly rolled out a set of services known as ‘Local Selling’, which will allow regional and local retailers to offer in-store pickup as well as fast delivery to nearby customers.

The new Local Selling option has been introduced to provide in-store pickup for services and products to shoppers located in specific ZIP codes. These items available for pickup will come with a ‘store pickup’ tab on the item page. Customers will also be able to enjoy same-day pickup from sellers at the local retail location of the business. In addition, they will receive a notification when their products are ready for pick up and have a 5-day pickup window to collect the items.

Furthermore, shoppers can select the arranged delivery option at checkout, for which, the local retailer will contact them to schedule the exact time and date for the delivery. Apart from local and regional delivery and pickup, they also can opt for product installation services.

For the record, Amazon Local Selling has apparently been made available from retailers including Focus Camera, MODIA, World Wide Stereo, Exclusive Furniture, DataVision, Adorama, Beach Camera, Mattress Warehouse, Appliance Connection, Best Buy, Electronic Express, 4 Wheel Parts, Sears Hometown Store, and Mavis Discount Tire, among others.

In 2019, the e-Commerce company tested in-store pickup options with the launch of ‘Counter’, through which the shoppers could collect packages from retail locations. This introduction of such services led to the company’s partnership with retailers to set up pickup counters in stores for online orders.

With the recent launch of Amazon Local Selling, the company is planning to leverage its third-party network and its physical stores to ensure a faster delivery to customers, as well as gain a competitive edge over other retailers and big box stores. This launch happened amid an increase in curbside pickup options during the COVID-19 pandemic.
