South Korean boy band, BTS, is reportedly set to perform at the 2021 Billboard Music Awards. As per sources close to the matter, the band will give the debut television performance of “Butter”, their new English-language single at the event, which will be held on 23rd May 2021.

Performing remotely from Korea, the K-pop band is a finalist in four categories at the show. These categories comprise top selling song for their Billboard Hot 100 No.1 hit “Dynamite”, top social artist, top song sales artist, and top duo/group. BTS could win its fifth successive award in the top social category, which is presently open for voting from fans.

The Billboard Music Awards celebrate the greatest achievements of music, with finalists that are determined by performance on the Billboard charts. Winners and finalists are based on major fan interactions with music. These interactions include streaming, album and digital song sales, social engagement, and radio airplay. These are tracked by Billboard and its data partners, comprising MRC Data. The awards for 2021 are based on the chart period from 21st March 2020 to 3rd April 2021.

For the record, “Dynamite” was last performed by BTS at the 2020 Billboard Music Awards from South Korea in a remote manner. The band’s “Butter” performance, which is due out in 21st May, will also be held in a remote manner. This year’s performers comprise P!nk and The Weeknd, who will be receiving the Icon Award that honors record breaking artists and their effect on music.

The 2021 Billboard Music Awards are produced by MRC-owned dick clark productions. Penske Media and MRC are co-parent companies of Billboard. It is to be noted that Robert Deaton and Barry Adelman are executive producers of the show. The event will air live from the Los Angeles-based Microsoft Theater on NBC on 23rd May 2021. The host of the event will be Nick Jonas.
