lululemon launches in Spain with plans to expand global footprint

U.S.-Canadian athletic apparel retailer, lululemon athletica has announced plans to launch the brand across more international markets after opening two new outlets and a local e-commerce site in Spain.

With a combination of an extensive landscape and the company’s ‘Power of Three ×2’ growth strategy – which aims to quadruple the brand’s 2021 international revenue by the end of 2026 – lululemon is foraying into Spain as the first new market in Europe since 2019.

Following the official launch of lululemon.es in late July, customers will be able to shop the brand’s innovative range of apparel and accessories for men and women via a dedicated e-commerce platform in Spanish.

In September, the company will establish its first Spanish retail units in some of the most popular hotspots including Madrid’s Calle Serrano and the Paseo de Gracia shopping district in Barcelona.

Speaking on the expansion, André Maestrini, Executive Vice President, International, stated that the company’s interest in Spain can be attributed to how well the country’s active and balanced lifestyle aligns with wellbeing – the brand’s core objective.

Maestrini also emphasized on the strength of the brand’s model which focuses on community, culture, experience, and product innovation as a major advantage in allowing it to enter its newest market.

The stores will showcase products that lululemon has designed with its much-appreciated eye for innovation, the ‘Science of Feel’, engineered with its best proprietary technical fabrics using innovative development techniques and strategic fits, and features that address user needs.

As market expansion remains one of the three core aspects of lululemon’s growth plan, the company leverages its robust presence in both new as well as existing markets to continue introducing the brand to more customers across the world.

At present, lululemon operates approximately 40 stores and three local language sites in eight European countries including Sweden, Switzerland, France, Germany, Norway, Netherlands, Ireland, and the UK.

Additionally, lululemon caters to a much larger European audience expanding beyond the above-mentioned countries through its EU website.
