Humit, a social networking app for music discovery and sharing, has announced raising funds from an undisclosed pre-seed round that was led by VC firm Antler India, with First Cheque as a participant.
The funding round also witnessed participation from other angel investors like Ankit Mathuria (CTO, OYO Rooms), Sarath Sura (Co-founder, Sierra Atlantic), Kshitij Khandelwal (Co-founder, Pixxel), Exotel), Gajendra Jangid (Co-founder, CARS24), and Alagu Periyannan (CTO, Bluejeans), among several others.
Humit, established in 2020 by BITS Pilani alumni Rohit Ganapathy, Prithvi Sankar, and Ishaan Negi, offers Spotify users an audio-focused online networking experience, with plans to expand to Apple Music, YouTube Music, and SoundCloud.
The startup depends on a community-driven approach, where music is discovered and shared via user-moderated channels called "stations". Humit currently has over 500 stations that have been created by users from 42 countries.
Rohit Ganapathy, Co-founder of Humit mentions that the company is understanding the challenges faced while exchanging music recommendations and what it means to be able to express oneself through music. This is the basic aim of Humit, and it is something that can be scaled globally.
As per Prithvi Sankar, Co-founder, Humit, creating cross-border connections by discovering one another's music stations is extremely satisfying to witness, and it implies that Humit is on to something special.
Rajiv Srivatsa, Partner, Antler India, commented on its funding in Humit, stating that Indian techpreneurs are ‘building in India, for the world,' which they feel will be one of the major trends to witness. Humit is pushing limits and establishing new social structures in the music industry, which has the potential to influence consumer preferences and create a new category.
According to reports, Humit is currently gaining popularity in India, the U.S., and other global markets.
