Aiming to enhance user experience, Snapchat has recently formed an alliance with NBCUniversal over a new audio feature that will give users access to licensed sound clips sourced from various NBCU TV shows and movies.
With this new feature, users can add audio clips to their Snaps from popular TV shows like ‘Saturday Night Live’ and ‘The Office’, and later post them to other users or on Snapchat Spotlight.
Upon receiving a Snap with sound, users on the other end can swipe up to check the details about the sound clip like the movie or TV series from where it is sourced.
Speaking about the recent launch, Ben Schwerin, Senior Vice President of Content & Partnerships, Snap, said that their firm believes Snapchatters will love adding quotes from NBCUniversal’s iconic catalog of movies and series to their Snaps to help express the moment more precisely.
Reportedly, Snapchat also has ties with other companies and studios within the music industry. Some of its partners include Universal Music Group, NMPA, Sony Music Publishing, Warner Music Group, Warner Chappell, BMG, Kobalt, and more.
As of now, Snapchat has been working to compete with TikTok. By giving users access to different sounds, the company could boost its efforts to rival with the Chinese app.
Notably, a similar effort was taken by Snapchat last year wherein it launched Sounds, a music-powered feature that enables users to set their Snaps to music. The company claims that since launching Sounds, they have reported 521 million videos creation with music from Sounds and around 31 billion views.
Although, Sounds was not just launched by Snapchat to compete with TikTok as the feature has led Snapchat to register nearly 45% of all its videos created with Sounds.
The latest sound clip catalog of NBCU will add up to the company’s efforts and will be made available to users across both iOS and Android.
